About us
A volunteer-run greyhound rehoming service, built by the people who walk the hounds
Greyhound Re-Homing finds homes for retired racing greyhounds and supports the families who take them in.
Who Are We?
Greyhound Re-Homing is a privately run initiative set up to address the shortage of re-homing avenues for Greyhounds, especially in regional NSW. We operate out of Manilla, in North West NSW, and predominately take in Greyhounds from pounds or trainers in and around the Tamworth area. We prefer to take dogs straight from Owners & Trainers, so that we can gather relevant information.
We have over 20 years' experience with Greyhounds of all shapes, sizes & ages. Jodi Green (our founder) grew up in racing kennels and has had dealings with all aspects of the greyhound lifecycle from birth onwards. She does not race and has no immediate involvement in today's racing life. After finishing full time employment (which included a lot of travel), Jodi went looking for a companion and found Patch in the pound. Research into greyhound groups in regional NSW showed a severe lack of options for greyhounds not suitable for racing, so we began working with existing groups to network hounds — and eventually Greyhound Re-Homing was formed.
We are a small group with only a few volunteers and we do not use kennels. Each dog that enters our care comes straight to Greyhound Re-Homing HQ (Jodi's place) for their vetwork & temperament testing, living inside until they find a foster home or their forever home.
What this website does
This site is the online home of Greyhound Re-Homing. It is where we list the greyhounds currently in our care, share each hound's profile and personality, and give prospective adopters everything they need to decide whether a greyhound suits their household.
Alongside adoption, we publish our activity reports so supporters can see exactly what their help achieved, write about the dogs and the people who look after them in our blog, run a boutique where every purchase funds boarding and veterinary care, and offer short and long term boarding for greyhounds whose families need a hand. We also keep a directory of rescue and rehoming partners, because a hound in need should always be able to find help.
It is built for anyone who cares about greyhounds: families looking to adopt, foster carers and volunteers, owners who need boarding, supporters who want to buy from the boutique or donate, and other rescue groups looking for a greyhound-friendly network.
The site was designed and generously provided free of charge by Code Lustre. Every entry is written by volunteers of Greyhound Re-Homing, and it is our volunteers who maintain these pages on a daily basis. There is no marketing team behind it. The same people who answer adoption enquiries and drive hounds to their new homes are the ones keeping the site up to date, so if something needs correcting or you would like to help, tell us through the contact page.
